Jim Carnegie

Jim farmed near Belbck, just north of Moose Jaw. He was a fine piper and example who worked quietly for young pipers in Moose Jaw. As a policeman in Edinburgh in the 1890s he had encountered a charming young lady who was taking piping lessons from the famous James Center, Although already a competent piper, Jim decided to follow her example and became a pupil of one of the world's finest piping-teachers. Near the turn of the century they married and came to Canada to take up farming. They often invited young pipers to stay a week or two on their farm for lessons. Taking lessons from Jim was like going to college for us youngsters, and we enjoyed every moment of it. As far as I know, there were no financial charges for our lessons.
